Born in the dim year of 1970, I started cycling at the age of 11 and racing at 12. Remarkably average schoolboy racing till aged 15 when started winning area titles at the ESCA ( English Schools Cycling Association ). I went on to win 3 National titles ( 2 in the Track Pursuit and 1 for the Time Trial ) and set records for the ESCA area time trial. Into my junior years and early senior racing I tried bunch racing seriously, including a stint racing in France. After only moderate success I decided I was rubbish and wouldnt be a pro. Two years later I took a break from cycling and played Basketball for the Leeds Tigers in the Yorkshire League. Injury put paid to that venture after 4 years of good progress, so I decided to return to my "roots" and back to the bike. The return! Broke my lifetime PB's in my first year back and have more or less done that year on year to date. I have a mid 20 10 mile, 55 min 25 miles and a 1hr 53 for the 50 miles. I've raced in several Nationals since returning finishing around the 40th to 60th positions. My targets for this year? Start Duathlon, race the 25, circuit and 100 miles National titles, finish in first 3 in my age group for the circuit champs. Beat my PB's for 25, 50 and 100 miles. I've raced in the past for Leeds Wellington CC ( Twice ), Wetherby Wheelers, Featherstone RC, Goole Vermuyden CC, Morley CC. Pet hates, hills, hills and hills, oh and hills. Also, parents that push their kids too hard within sport. I'm married with 2 noisy expensive kids and live ironically at the top of a 1 mile climb, didnt think that one through properly. |
